Quality and evidence, control 9 of 15
Q-09 Publish first-party data with provenance and privacy controls
First-party evidence should state its source, population, period and limitations. Ownership of data does not automatically permit public disclosure.
- Priority
- High priority.
- Hard gate
- No
- Change class
- EVIDENCE_REQUIRED: Authoritative facts must be supplied.
- Quality bucket
- Original, non-commodity value
Why it matters
Data shown without its sample, period or scope cannot be judged, so readers have no way to tell whether it applies to them. Search engines and AI answer engines also have little reason to trust or cite figures that arrive without context. Publishing raw data before data protection duties are settled creates a separate risk.
Evidence to review
- Provenance record, permissions, aggregation method and privacy review.
How to implement
- Confirm publication permission and minimise personal information.
- Describe sampling, exclusions and aggregation.
- Distinguish a customer example from a general population result.
- Keep raw confidential data outside public repositories and research prompts.
How UltimateSEO checks this
Needs your evidence. No automated check covers this control, so it stays UNKNOWN until evidence is supplied.
Evidence needed: the first-party dataset, how it was collected and the provenance statement published with it.
States used: PASS, FAIL, UNKNOWN, NOT_APPLICABLE or BLOCKED. UNKNOWN is never shown as a pass. How states work.
