Why it matters
A site that covers whatever topics happen to attract traffic gives readers and search engines no clear sense of what it is for. Google's guidance on people-first content asks for a site with a coherent purpose, and the same clarity helps AI answer engines judge what the site can be trusted on. Off-topic pages weaken that picture.
Evidence to review
- Topic map, business purpose, content-owner rationale and historical performance.
How to implement
- Map categories to the primary audience and offering.
- Review a representative URL inventory for unsupported topic expansion.
- Investigate traffic, links, conversions and legal/support roles before proposing a removal, migration or noindex.
How UltimateSEO checks this
Partly automated. The scan records page signals, but a passing signal is kept as information: contextual or account evidence is still needed to establish the control.
The check looks at: the crawler infers topic coherence from titles and H1s across the site; the site owner confirms the intended purpose and focus.
States used: PASS, FAIL, UNKNOWN, NOT_APPLICABLE or BLOCKED. UNKNOWN is never shown as a pass. How states work.
