Intent and strategy, control 4 of 12
I-04 Validate primary intent and page type
Choose a page type from user tasks, live results and business evidence. Search results inform the decision; they do not require copying competitors.
- Priority
- Gate. A FAIL stops publish or launch.
- Hard gate
- Yes. A FAIL stops publication, whatever the score.
- Change class
- AUTO_WITH_TEST: A candidate requiring relevant tests.
- Quality bucket
- Intent and user-task fit
Why it matters
If an LLM guesses the intent and format, the page may not match what people searching for it actually want. Competing URLs for the same intent split the signals, and a mismatched page type serves neither users nor AI answer engines. Evidence from the SERP, users and your own data keeps each URL doing a distinct job.
Evidence to review
- Query-intent-URL map, result-format sample and first-party task evidence.
How to implement
- Classify the real task as service, product, category, comparison, tool, guide, local or support.
- Identify an existing resource that already fulfils it.
- Document conflicts between apparent search intent and customer evidence before creating a new page.
How UltimateSEO checks this
Needs your evidence. No automated check covers this control, so it stays UNKNOWN until evidence is supplied.
Evidence needed: live result inspection, Search Console queries and customer research that justify the chosen intent and page type.
States used: PASS, FAIL, UNKNOWN, NOT_APPLICABLE or BLOCKED. UNKNOWN is never shown as a pass. How states work.
